Councillor Ian Sherwood serves on Swaffham Town and Breckland Council, Ian first stood for election in May 1999 and again in 2003 and 2007 as a Conservative candidate. He has consistently been elected with one of the highest polls to both councils. He believes standing as a Conservative allows people to know his basic political beliefs; it also helps at both Town and District Council to have the support of fellow Conservative Councillors.
Ian believes in providing the services people want at a cost they can afford. He said before his election in 1999 “Every Councillor must remember it’s the people’s money that we are trusted with and we are answerable to them at the ballot box for how we use it.”

He wants councils to be open and answerable to those who elect them and believes people should have access to information they require. To this end, Ian has his own website www.cllriansherwood.co.uk with details of his register of interests, payments and expenses he receives as a Councillor. It also lists his attendance record at council meetings.

Ian was elected as Mayor in 2003-04 by his fellow town councillors, and considered it an honour to represent Swaffham across the county. He has introduced a number of new policies for the future development of the town.

Born in Boughton, a village near Swaffham in 1962. He attended the village county primary school, following primary he attended high school and completed his formal education at The College of West Anglia in King's Lynn. He made his home in Swaffham in 1996, is married to Julie, and has a daughter.

Ian began his employment with the civil service, and was self-employed for a number of years as a retail proprietor. Currently he is employed as the Constituency Agent for the South West Norfolk Conservative Association.
