I have lived in Swaffham all my life and know the town better than most. I am 56 years old and have been married to Rosemary for 35 years. We have three sons, Richard, Colin and John.
As a town councillor since 1999, I have served one year as Deputy Mayor and I am also Planning Advisor to the Town Council.
I am a Town Council representative (Chairman) on Swaffham Museum Ltd., as well as being President of the Friends of Swaffham Museum.

During my time representing you on the council, I have researched various matters and my extensive research has been the reason why £625,000 was recovered for the Council. This money has provided £85,000 for the Swimming Pool Fund; £3,000 for the Friends of Swaffham Hospital and the interest on the remaining capital is being used to pay off a loan that has enabled us to do the following:
- Build a Town Hall extension.
- Give grants to the Iceni Partnership that has been match funded by various organisations to a total in excess of £5,000,000 for various town improvements.
- Give a £50,000 grant to the museum, which has been match funded to a total of over £340,000, part of this grant enabling the museum to expand and renovate the old Town Hall. There is badly needed repair work the Town Council could not have afforded to do because it is not eligible for the grants obtained by the museum. Previous councils let the building rot to save a few pence on the Council Tax bill.
As Chairman of Swaffham Museum Ltd., earlier this year I applied for and obtained grants to enable the Museum to purchase a painting of Swaffham Market Place in 1837. A £7,000 grant came from the National Arts Collection Fund to help with this.
My research into the Shambles area is still incomplete, but I produced enough irrefutable evidence last year to stop Breckland District Council declaring it to be a private area. In fact, BDC are now giving all Shambles deeds they know about to the Town Council, making it the largest single landowner there.
And so the work goes on for Swaffham.
